NEW YORK, Feb. 4 (GeokHub) — Verizon Wireless has filed a lawsuit against rival T-Mobile, accusing the carrier of misleading advertising practices that allegedly exaggerate customer savings and cause long-term damage to Verizon’s business and brand.

In a complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan, Verizon argues that T-Mobile’s marketing campaigns promise consumers more than $1,000 in annual savings for switching carriers — claims Verizon says are inflated, inaccurate, and unsupported by fair price comparisons.

Verizon alleges that T-Mobile overstated potential savings by comparing its promotional offers against Verizon’s standard pricing, while failing to account for bundled discounts and added-value services available to Verizon customers. According to the lawsuit, some savings claims were allegedly exaggerated by more than 100%.

The filing also contends that T-Mobile inflated the value of perks such as streaming subscriptions, satellite connectivity, and additional benefits, portraying them as exclusive advantages while downplaying comparable offerings provided by competitors.

Verizon further claims that T-Mobile continued to promote similar savings assertions even after advertising regulators previously found nearly identical claims to be misleading and unsubstantiated. The lawsuit says those findings should have prompted corrective action rather than continued marketing.

According to Verizon, the advertising fails to provide “apples-to-apples” comparisons of subscriber costs, particularly by overlooking bundled service discounts that combine entertainment and streaming platforms under a single subscription.

The lawsuit seeks to block the disputed advertisements and requests damages under federal and state laws governing unfair competition and false advertising. Verizon alleges the conduct was intentional and caused ongoing harm to consumer trust.

T-Mobile did not immediately comment on the lawsuit.

As of the most recent filings, Verizon remains the largest U.S. wireless carrier by subscriber count, narrowly ahead of T-Mobile, while AT&T ranks third in the highly competitive market.
