The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has ordered the immediate release of protesters who were arrested during recent demonstrations against killings in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area. Speaker Aondona Dajoh made the directive during an emergency plenary session held in Makurdi on Tuesday, following mounting public outcry over the detention of peaceful demonstrators. The protesters had taken to the streets to condemn the recent massacre in Yelwata, where over 100 residents were killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen. Describing the arrests as unconstitutional, Dajoh said, “Peaceful protest is a fundamental right in any democracy.
