Trump Says Iran and Israel May ‘Have to Fight It Out’ Before Peace Deal
Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said Iran and Israel “may have to fight it out” before reaching a peace agreement, amid ongoing missile exchanges between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the G7 summit in Canada, Trump expressed hope for a diplomatic resolution but acknowledged that armed conflict may precede negotiations.
“I think it’s time for a deal,” Trump said. “But sometimes they have to fight it out before they get there. We’ll see what happens.”
Trump confirmed that the United States is not currently involved militarily but emphasized continued support for Israel's right to self-defense. He also stated that the U.S. is open to helping facilitate peace talks if the opportunity arises.
The comments come as tensions escalate across the Middle East, with increased concern from international leaders about a broader regional war.
No official response has been issued by either the Israeli or Iranian governments regarding Trump’s remarks.
