Trump Cuts Canada Trip Short Due to “What’s Going On in the Middle East”
President Trump departed Canada late Monday evening, ahead of the summit's official conclusion. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the decision was made "because of what’s going on in the Middle East."
Upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews early Tuesday, Trump proceeded directly to the White House Situation Room for emergency consultations with the National Security Council.
The President also took to Truth Social, urging Iranians to “immediately evacuate Tehran,” amid rising speculation about an imminent escalation between Israel and Iran. He dismissed claims that he was seeking a ceasefire, writing, “Wrong! It certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire.”
French President Emmanuel Macron, however, told reporters that Trump had earlier proposed a ceasefire during private discussions—a claim the U.S. President later denied.
The crisis in the Middle East has dominated talks at the G7, following several days of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure and Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks on U.S.-linked positions in the region.
A joint G7 statement issued late Monday affirmed Israel’s right to self-defense and called on both sides to de-escalate hostilities.
