China Issues Stern Warning Over U.S. Airstrikes on Iran
The Chinese government has issued a strong diplomatic warning following the United States' recent airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities, calling the move "highly destabilizing" and urging immediate de-escalation in the region.
In an official statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Beijing condemned the unilateral U.S. action against Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, warning that the strikes risk triggering a broader Middle East conflict with "serious consequences for global peace and security."
“We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint,” the statement read. “The use of force only exacerbates tensions and undermines efforts toward a peaceful resolution.”
China, a key economic and diplomatic partner of Iran, reiterated its support for diplomatic channels and the revival of the nuclear agreement, which collapsed after years of negotiations and sanctions.
Chinese officials also warned that continued military escalation by the U.S. could force Beijing to “reconsider its strategic posture” in the Gulf, though no details were given.
“China has significant interests in the region, including energy security and maritime stability,” said Professor Lin Zhao of Peking University’s Institute of International Relations. “This statement is both a warning and a signal.”
Beijing’s response follows sharp criticism from Russia and muted reactions from several EU nations, who have urged Washington and Tehran to avoid further conflict.
The situation remains tense as the international community closely watches for Iran’s next move and any U.S. military follow-up.
